Founded in 1950
The partnership of R&H Railway Consultants was founded in 1950 as a specialist railway consulting practice by Messrs FC Robertson and MF Hitchins, both of whom had been District Engineers in the South African Railways. With over half a century of railway planning and engineering design experience, R&H Railway Consultants are now ranked as one of Africa's largest private rail consultants.

Member of the Railroad Association of South Africa
The company is a member of the Railroad Association (RRA) of South Africa. The RRA is the first professional organisation to represent the interest of South African transport industry companies that supply materials and services to the railway and road industry. In addition, the association represents a number of academic institutions and rail operators who are involved in maintaining and expanding South Africa's Railway system.
Consultancy beyond South African borders
R&H Railway Consultants has also expanded its interests beyond the borders of South Africa, and has carried out various rail related projects in Namibia, Mozambique, Zimbabwe, Zambia, Democratic Republic of Congo, Malawi, Angola and Malaysia.
